In Tulip we uphold the belief that through collaboration empires can be built and any obstacle can be overcome. We try to ingrain in each and every one of our employees the importance of teamwork and helping others. After all, two heads are better than one!
Most companies favor collaboration as it does not require leadership and can sometimes bring better results through decentralization and egalitarianism. In particular, teams that work collaboratively can obtain greater resources, recognition and reward when facing competition for finite resources.
Cultivating an environment of collaborative effort aids a company in establishing better and stronger ties between co-workers. Valuing the opinions of everyone, regardless of their position within the company, generates feelings of positive reinforcement in the employees leading to enhanced loyalty of workers towards their organization.
Collaboration is the basis for bringing together the knowledge, experience and skills of multiple team members to contribute to the development of a new product more effectively than individual team members performing their narrow tasks in support of product development.
Collaboration requires effective team work. Team members must trust and respect one another. There must be open communication and a willingness to accept input from others. However, there are often conflicting goals in product development. Many people believe compromise is the ideal. Compromise represents a moderate degree of both assertiveness and cooperativeness. It represents the approach of "Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose". This, however, is not the ideal. A good team includes people that have strong beliefs and are professionally to the company and the development program (but not necessarily to just the narrow functional perspective of their discipline).
As we often remind fellow Tulipians as well as ourselves, the best creations of the world were made through collaboration: be it the pyramids of Egypt, the music of Lennon-McCartney or the Internet, cooperation is the key to innovation and creation.
