Knowledge is Power

“Knowledge is power.” This eloquent and concise quote by Sir Francis Bacon sums up much of what we try to encapsulate in our daily lives at Tulip, as well as our lives in general.

Although too much stress is laid on getting a ‘formal’ education, especially in a country like ours, we feel that experience is a key in developing a person into a knowledgeable individual. Experiences play a huge part in the development of one's morals. In all endeavors, one should try the best that they can, to reflect images of previous lessons learnt. In other words, one needs to incorporate the lessons taught to them by formal education received through the surrounding environment in order to help them succeed in life.

It has been proved that those with knowledge are generally those who are powerful. In fact, the main reason why so many of the so-called ‘lower sections of society’ were barred from going to schools and from learning, is because those in power feared education would free their minds and shatter their ties of bondage to their overloads. Education was seen as the key to freedom.

Education makes man a right thinker and a correct decision-maker. He achieves this by attaining knowledge from the external world, which teach him to reason, and acquaint him with the past history, so that he can be a better judge of the present. Without education, a man seems as if he is shut up in a windowless room. With education, he finds himself in a room with all its windows open to the outside world.

Thus, what I would urge people to do is simple. Enrich yourself. Try something new. Learn from experiences and read. All these activities will make you expand your mind and in the end, it is only you who will benefit.
